Colorful Date Night Makeup

I came up with a fun and colorful look for a night out with the hubs and friends to celebrate a lovely friend's birthday. I wanted something bright and Springy cuz I am so over Winter. We went to a place in Salt Lake City called the Bayou and it was awesome! Fantastic drinks and the food was delish! So I figured I could get away with bright colors at a New Orleans themed place.

Charlize Theron Golden Globes Makeup

When I saw Charlize on the Golden Globes I was just in love with her look. Just stunning! I had to recreate it. It is a simple, yet elegant makeup look that can be worn to something like Golden Globes or even just an everyday 'going to the grocery store' makeup. To me, that is the beauty of it. I've been in the industry for 11 1/2 years now and I'm still always amazed at how makeup is so versatile and fun. It can change a person's face ever so slightly and still be dramatic. I love it. It is the same with doing hair. I can simply just change the tone of a client's hair color and voila. Totally different looking. This is one reason why beauty fascinates me.

Ok so back to the video. I know I don't have the same coloring as Charlize, and I'm certainly not going to pretend to be as flawless as her, but I this look is very wearable on everyone. Here is my inspiration photo:

Absolutely stunning. So now I'm almost embarrassed to show you my pics and video. But, then what would be the point of this website right? ;-)

Emphasizing Eyes

This is a request I had to show how to make smaller eyes look bigger as well as wearing glasses. The good news is I can knock both those out in one post and video :) There are lots and lots of ways to emphasize the eyes. I have shown many techniques in a lot of my videos or posts. This one is very specified to the best and easiest ways to bring attention to eyes. The more attention the eyes get the larger they can appear and the more noticeable behind glasses they are.

In this look I show you in this video the eyes are even the feature that stand out from a distance as well. Whether you wear glasses or not. When wearing glasses the key to making your eyes stand out and or appear larger is the eyebrows. Make sure they are well groomed. They frame glasses. And the space between the eyes and the brows when done up right make the eyes appear larger. Clean and well define brows will really help with glasses/making eyes look big. So keep up on your waxing/tweezing :) A tip for tweezing: Try to tweeze right after showering or washing your face. The pores will be clean and open from the warmth of the water. Thus making easier to tweeze and less painful.

Use light colored shimmery eye shadows in the inner corner/tear duct area and on the lid. Use darker colors on the outer corners of lids. Don't go into the crease too much. Just make sure to feather and blend the colors together. Keep the middle of the lid pretty light and shimmery like the inner corner. Also line the upper lashline only. Use whatever eyeliner you like best liquid, gel, pencil whatever. Just keep the liner very thin on the inner corner and then gradually make the line thicker as you go to the outer corner. Adding a wing/flick will also open up the eyes and add a pretty shape to the eyes.

Use a highlighter under the eyebrows and brow bone. Whether you use a high shimmery shadow, or High Brow from Benefit Cosmetics, or a MAC Mineralize Skinfinish like I did just use something that will reflect light causing the eye to look bright, big and beautiful!

Use a light colored kohl pencil, or shadow stick or whatever liner on the lower waterline. This makes the eyes look really awake and open. Use light colors like peach, off white, white, or flesh toned. They can either be matte or shimmery. Doesn't matter as long as it is a light color.

Keep the rest of your makeup simple. Use lots of mascara. Use a highlighter on the tops of the cheek bones and around the eye like shown in the video. This bring more attention to your eyes.

More tips for glasses: You can really do any makeup look you want. The key for glasses is making sure you intensify the colors. No matter what color you choose to use just add a bit more than you think you need. This will help it be seen behind your glasses. Use a primer to help make eye shadow colors brighter. Also with glasses you can get away with a brighter lipgloss or lipstick. So play around with different lip colors.

(Terrible pics. I was in a rush to get this video and pics done before I had to pick up my daughter at the bus stop)

This look can really be worn by anyone. If you have really large eyes I would add a little shadow underneath the eye in the lower lashline. Or even a soft liner. You could also replace the lighter color on the waterlines for a darker one. Enjoy the video!
